The deVeber Family – Early History
deVebre, D'Vebre, d'Vebre, deWeber, deWebber (1)

European Roots
From oral history, the family joined the Protestant Reformation and were thought to have been Huguenots. They are believed to have lived somewhere in France prior to 1700. Their country of origin is unknown but may have been Germany or Alsace-Lorraine. Weber, pronounced Veber means “weaver” in German.

The family is thought to have emigrated to Switzerland either before or subsequent to the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, because of severe persecution of the Huguenots by the Catholic Church in France at that time.
